MY DECISION

FADES IN:

1. INT. DESIRE HOUSE - LIVING ROOM – DAY                       1.

WE PAN THROUGH A CLEAN AND WELL-ARRANGED LIVING ROOM THAT EXUDES WEALTH.

BEAUTIFUL NATURAL PLANTS AND FLOWERS IN POTS AT THE CORNERS.

THE LIVING ROOM AND DINING ROOM ARE ENCLOSED ON A LARGE SPACIOUS FLOOR.

 

Desire emerges from inside with her bag in her arm, all dressed up for office. She puts her bag on the table beside her car key and fixes her hand chain using hair bobby pin to hold it down.

Her maid stands behind her and calls her.

DENOLA

            Aunty, Aunty...

DESIRE

            Denola, I‟m not deaf; I‟m right here 

            in front of you.

DENOLA

            Tea yin ti ready ma.

 

DESIRE

              Okay. Ose.

DENOLA

              Um, se kin gbe wa ma, abi ema wa-

DESIRE

              Don’t worry. Leave it there.

DENOLA

              Okay ma.

She goes back to the kitchen.

Desire fixes her chain and goes to the dining room for her tea.

 

2.   INT. DINNING ROOM                                             2.

She drinks her hot tea gently. She’s done.

DESIRE

              I’m leaving. Take care of the house.

DENOLA

              Okay ma.

She goes to the living room.

 

2b.  INT. LIVING ROOM                                             2b

She picks her bag and car key and leaves the house.

 

3.   EXT. COMPOUND – CONTINUOUS - DAY                             3.

She steps out of the house into the compound and towards her car.

GATEKEEPER

              Ekaaro ma.

The gate keeper hurries towards the gate.

A KNOCK ON THE GATE

GATEKEEPER

              Tani yen?

RONKE

              Ronke.

Desire stops, hearing that. She squints at the gate.

The gatekeeper opens.

Ronke enters with a box luggage. She looks unkempt. Desire looks confused. They meet on the way.

DESIRE

              Ronke, what’s going on?

Ronke stands there in silence, bottling her emotions.

DESIRE

(holds her arms)

              Kilo se e? why are you looking like 
              this?

Ronke burst into tears. She couldn’t keep it any longer. She cried bitterly. The gatekeeper opens his mouth in surprise.

Desire is now really alarmed.

DESIRE

              Ah.

She looks at the gatekeeper, he closes his mouth instantly. Then she looks at Ronke.

DESIRE(CONT.)

              It’s okay. Ti e je ka koko wole na, 
              okay? Let’s go in.

Ronke nods and tried to wipe her tears.

DESIRE

(to gatekeeper)

              Iwo, gbe bag yen tele mi, gbeborun.

GATEKEEPER

              Yes ma.

Desire holds Ronke as they enter.

 

4.   INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS –DAY                      4.

The traveling luggage is by the side.

Ronke is sitting sobbing. She notices the plant by the door.

INSERT: PLANT POT

Desire is standing at a corner, she is on phone.

DESIRE

(on phone)

              Wo IV, sa ma abo.

(looks at Ronke and notices
she’s looking at a plant pot, 
she continues talking)

              I really can’t say... okay. Be fast.

She disconnects and looks at Ronke in worry. She sighs and goes to her.

 DESIRE 

      Just calm down, okay? I don’t even 
      know what to say.

Denola brings her a glass of water. Desire collects it and Denola leaves. Desire feeds Ronke the water and then puts the glass on the table.

Ivanah enters the house in a hurry.

  IVANAH

Girl, I don’t understand what you were 
saying. What did you say happened to her?

Desire stands up for her to sit beside Ronke. She goes to lean her butt on the arm of a couch adjacent them.

  IVANAH

Kilosele?
