INT. CLIVE HOUSE:LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS - DAY
CLEVE(V.O)
Son? Son where are you?
Cleve walks in with a bottle of Napoleon and a wrapped package
Clive emerges – he’s now dressed down -
CLIVE
(happy)
Dad.
CLEVE
Common, give your pop man a hug.
They hug happily.
CLEVE
How was your trip?
CLIVE
Awesome dad.
(sees the Nap)
I guess it’s celebration time, I’ll get the glasses.
(sees the package)
Wait, is that what I think it is?
CLEVE
(grins)
Yes it is.
Clive snatches the package and starts unwrapping impatiently without another word.
It’s a CHOCOLATE box.
He opens, picks one, unwraps and tucks into his mouth with a sigh of satisfaction.
CLEVE WATCHES CLIVE’S ACTIONS QUIETLY then shakes his head.
CLIVE
(looks at him)
Why the suffocating wrap?
He starts unwrapping one after the other and dipping into his mouth.
CLEVE
You want me to miss this awesome scene? Nah
Clive sees the wine in Cleve’s hand.
CLIVE
That wine is in the bar.
CLEVE
I thought it’s taken and I didn’t want to take the chances.
CLIVE
Nah. There’s still some in the store too
CLEVE
You know how much I got this? Thrice the normal price. This thing is getting insanely ridiculous.
CLIVE
(chuckles)
The richest actor is complaining of famine.
Cleve wants to talk but he looks at Clive as he unwraps his chocolates impatiently and decides not to say a thing.
CLEVE
I guess you don’t have time to get the glasses again.
He starts to walk towards the BAR.
CLIVE
(mouth full)
Hmm-- you do that. You promised to pick me up at the airport.
Cleve sits on the LONG stool at the bar and picks two glasses and then starts opening the drink.
CLEVE
Yes but at-- least I sent the driver. Told you don’t trust people.
CLIVE
(mouth full)
Even if the people is my father?
CLEVE
Yea, even if the people is your father. Your father don’t even trust himself.
Pause.
Cleve pours the wine into the glasses.
CLEVE(CONT’D)
You know I met a lady today—well not meet exactly, I just saw her and was taken by her charms
CLIVE
(jests, nodding)
You like her?
(laughs with full mouth)
He coughs and slaps his hand against his mouth to stop himself from spilling.
Cleve looks at him.
CLEVE
Would you slow down, it’s not going anywhere
Clive calms.
CLEVE
I wish your so called fans can see how jejune you are at home.
Clive ignores his father’s words.
CLIVE
(laughing)
You like that girl, old man.
He rushes to tickle his father. They laugh.
CLIVE
Tell me, tell me about her.
CLEVE
(blushing)
Like I said, I didn’t really meet her, I saw her afar but didn’t go to her.
CLIVE
Aw, why? She didn’t see you?
CLEVE
She did see me, we even greeted.
CLIVE
(nods)
From afar?
CLEVE
(squeezes face)
Yea with our heads.
CLIVE
(irritated)
What? Why didn’t you go to her dad?
(disappointed; stands to walk away)
I’ve always known you to be timidly jejune.
CLEVE
What? I’m not-- is that even a word?
CLIVE
(stops)
You’re not even a man, you saw a woman you like and let her slip right out your hands?
CLEVE
No! I didn’t want to go to her.
CLIVE
No dad; you did want to go her, you just didn’t-- go to her.
Clive furrows and then suddenly starts smiling with emotions.
CLEVE
(confused)
What?
CLIVE
I met a woman today… so beautiful and-- wait I got her picture on my phone, not her full face but-- wait let me go bring it.
CLEVE
(pulls him back)
Come tell me more.
CLIVE
Let me go bring the picture.
CLEVE
I can see that later. Tell me how you met her.
Clive sits and reminisces, smiling with emotions
CLIVE
I was in the car and she was driving you know, her car I suppose and she drove pass, I saw her and I liked her instantly and I took her picture
(smiles)
CLEVE
(frowns)
Wait-- you mean you saw her driving and you took her picture?
CLIVE
(smiles)
Yes.
Cleve starts laughing hard.
CLEVE
(laughing)
Now you are the man.
CLIVE
(frowns)
Common dad.
CLEVE
What? I shouldn’t laugh? You did yours some mins back remember?
CLIVE
I’m your son, you shouldn’t mock me.
CLEVE
Oh there they go again when you want to cheat; son can mock father, father can’t mock son.
CLIVE
I didn’t mock you, moreover I didn’t have the chance to talk to her; you had the chance and you blew it.
CLEVE
Yea but you know why.
CLIVE
I’ve told you need to have someone in your life.
CLEVE
You should be careful with women son; they aren’t trustworthy and they can kill.
CLIVE
(roll eyes)
All women can’t be like my mother.
CLEVE
(snaps)
No, I will not let you back down the same train. Your mother left me for a Senator when I was starting out my career. She broke my heart and--
CLIVE
--yes I know that dad and if she were to be alive, I’m sure she would regret it now but she’s dead dad and you need to live your life.
CLEVE
I’m living my life.
CLIVE
No you are not and you know it and I will advise you, if you’re opportune to meet that girl again, grab it, don’t let it slide no matter what.
They gaze at each other.
CLEVE
Okay.
CLIVE
(smiles)
Is that a promise?
CLEVE
Yes from father to son.
CLIVE
(grins)
I’m having a step mom soon.
CLEVE
And who told you I’m meeting her soon or even again?
CLIVE
Something tells me you will.
(picks his glass and sips)
Cleve watches him with a smile.

INT. CLIVE HOUSE – DAY
Clive is with a man.
CLIVE
Please make sure it’s done perfectly.
MAN
Don’t worry sir, it will be perfect.
CLIVE
Good.

INT. THE MARTINS – DAY
Vera enters happily holding TWO INVITES
VERA
Check it out.
(drops it on her laps)
WINIFRED
What is it?
(checks it)
Invite? Celebrity Fan Date? I don’t understand.
VERA
(ascending tone)
We-are-going↑
(jumps happily)
WINIFRED
(confused)
Wait, we? How did you do it? I mean isn’t there supposed to be a vote or some criteria, I can’t remember doing anything or even you.
VERA
Cousin, I have friends in high places; okay I’ll tell you. All I did was, offer to sponsor the program-
WINIFRED
You—you what? Vera, where did you get the money to sponsor th-the program-- you know what the company is going through right now because of the economy?
VERA
Relax babe, so as I was saying, I offered to sponsor them so automatically that puts us at the heart of it.
WINIFRED
Us? Is this supposed to be two people per celeb?
VERA
No, but hey we are sponsoring the fucking thing. Moreover how can I let you miss the love chemistry of Clive and Vera Daniels? You need to be there to tell the story.
WINIFRED
You don’t even love him.
VERA
And I won’t but I will be Mrs Daniels that’s all that matters.
She starts to walk away happily and then stops and turns.
VERA
And about the sponsoring, you’ll thank me later.
(winks)
She dances in. Winifred watches her in dismay.
